The latest round of fighting between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip brought with it a wave of online misinformation that led to a drastic increase in antisemitic incidents around the globe.
Despite Hamas firing more than 4,000 rockets indiscriminately towards Israeli cities, including over 650 rockets than landed inside Gaza itself, hundreds of celebrities jumped on the anti-Israel bandwagon.
Rather than calling for the de-escalation of violence or an end to divisive rhetoric, entertainers, athletes, and executives posted misleading memes, propaganda statements, and one-sided accounts of the conflict on their social media feeds to their millions of influential followers.
However, there were also a handful of brave truth tellers, who were often attacked by bots, trolls, and fake accounts in a calculated attack to suppress their voices who used their platforms to post positive messages of peace, neutral acknowledgement of the pain and loss impacting all parties involved, and calls for de-escalation of the hateful rhetoric and malicious misinformation being spread.
Creative Community for Peace (CCFP) released its own statement signed onto by over 125 entertainers and leading entertainment industry professionals placing the blame of the violence on Hamas and urging our fellow peers to stop spreading misinformation. This open letter was signed onto by entertainment luminaries such as Gene Simmons, Selma Blair, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Diane Warren, and Michael Buble.
Here are some of the other courageous influencers who had the conviction to speak out against antisemitism and speak up on behalf of Israel.
